A Wound Site

A noninvasive device for monitoring wound site perfusion

The Problem

The incidence of diabetes mellitus has been increasing over the last decade. Diabetics often present with nonhealing wounds of the lower extremities. Half of these patients require amputation. Many diabetic patients with wounds require hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT), an expensive and somewhat controversial procedure. The estimated expense cost of diabetes is over $100 billion each year.

The solution

WoundImager® is a noninvasive advanced wound-monitoring medical device based on a patented laser speckle imaging technique to monitor the efficacy of therapeutic treatment of wounds (primarily diabetic wounds). WoundImager® allows clinicians to capture images of the wound area, view the microvasculature, and document the computed blood velocity information for future comparison. WoundImager® can also verify the efficacy of HBOT, and possibly reduce the cost of diabetes significantly.
